HOME STUDIO FOR AN ARTIST
Location: Manoppello –Abruzzo, Italy

The building, situated on the top of a hill, responds to a dual function: artist's studio and home for the family. Observing the territory, with the presence of the houses of clay and their chromatic relationship with its surroundings, suggest the idea of using the slab in brick. The Tavelle (hollow tiles), once divided, were applied both on the facades that on the cover as a coating choosing the inner part of them, resulting in a unique solution of the use of this material. The formal purity takes the shape of barns and houses land extensively in the area. The interior space consists of a living unit on two levels of wood (including the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and the library), which divides in two the total volume (study and living). The openings guarantee (the client's request) a horizontal light in the studio and at the same time frame of the views of particular landscape suggestion.
The used brick is produced by Wienerberger Italy and is called “Tavella”.
“Tavella” is the italian name for the particular brick.
We don’t Know if this manufacture there is in other country outside italy but in particular in the centre and south of italy is used for various application.
The dimension 25x50x3 cm, have a good job where the low thickness is necessary; for example is used how a connection from two parts of wall with a column in c.a. in the meddle where you need to make it better the termal bridge.
This project is used as a coating. Like a brick-skin that with its continuity cover/walls, determines a manufacture that integrates seamlessly with the territory characterized by the presence of many houses of clay.
The project is located in the hinterland of the province of pescara. The municipality is called Manoppello and lies in a hilly territory characterized by a strong agricultural nature.
