Erläuterungstext
As the world’s energy production is slowly becoming more sustainable – so can its transportation. After all, green energy does not exist, but green space does. The land underneath the power grid has the potential to form a coherent ecological network connecting areas with great biodiversity, as well as a valuable recreational structure for a wider public. In the Netherlands, the transmission network can become the country’s largest national park, filling in the missing links in our National Ecological Network (EHS). Energy companies, provinces and municipalities have reacted with great enthusiasm on the concept and a coalition to realize a first kilometer of Ecological Energy network (EEN) is in the making.
Beurteilung durch das Preisgericht
A very interesting proposal on the scale of the Netherlands in which a very clear problem is exposed and reversed to an opportunity in an equally powerful and simple way, the jury said. In addition, the market serves as support for the development of biodiversity. The alliance needed for this, has already been put together by the team.
Regulations for electricity networks are increasing, while the national nature network remains unfinished
What if... the power network would supplement the nature network?
This Ecological Energy Network crosses all kinds of landscape
EEN would be the biggest National Park in the Netherlands
Designing a coalition for a pilot of 1km EEN
In Eindhoven EEN could connect green areas and biodiversity in the city
EEN can create accessible areas for recreation
Ultimately, EEN is embraced as a new way of making landscape
